Timandra by Theodoros Kallifatides, the Greek-born, Sweden-based author and recipient of important international awards, was a Maldoror production presented for the first time in Greece. Revisiting antiquity through the perspective of a courtesan positioned at the margins of power and historical narrative, the work offers a contemporary reflection on love, war, philosophy, power, and female sexuality.

Through three performers embodying different stages of Timandra’s life, the production approaches her body, thought, and consciousness from multiple perspectives, tracing a journey that unfolds alongside the political and social transformations of the ancient Greek world. As personal memory intersects with collective history, Timandra emerges as a figure through whom questions of desire, agency, and survival are continuously renegotiated.

Engaging Maldoror’s axes of Female Identity and Human Experience and Cultural Memory and Greek Writing, Timandra reactivates classical material as a living field of reflection, rearticulating historical and mythological narratives through a contemporary performative language and contributing to contemporary artistic creation.
