Art Base – Brussels
05.10.2019
Presented at Art Base in Brussels by invitation of the Hellenic Circle – Cultural Association in Brussels, Beneath the Shadow of the Mountain brought Yannis Ritsos’ work to an international audience through Nana Papadaki’s direction and performance. The presentation was part of Maldoror’s ongoing exploration of cultural memory and Greek writing, transforming literary material into a contemporary theatrical experience.
The Brussels performance marked an important stage in the development of the project, which emerged from a dialogue between Greek literary heritage, theatre, and visual expression, and continued through further international and Greek presentations. It was followed by a public discussion with the audience, moderated by poet and legal adviser to the European Commission Maria Patakia, focusing on the relationship between literature, contemporary performance, and cultural dialogue.
The presentation reflected Maldoror’s commitment to the international circulation of Greek artistic creation, approaching cultural heritage as a living and evolving material through which new meanings and forms of expression can emerge.
